Marrakech - a company meetup worth remembering
The team that travels, works, and cooks together grows together. :D

One of the most attractive parts of working in a company where we connect daily from five continents while being a relatively small team is that seeing each other in person is an event that leaves its mark in many ways.
At Wasmer, as part of the company's wellness culture, we have decided to meet in person twice a year. Since the fall of 2021, we have seen each other in Madrid, Valencia, and Lanzarote, and this time, we decided to go to North Africa and settle in Marrakech, Morocco.
Goals
Before starting the meetup, we set to achieve the following technical feats:
- Have all the frontend pages refreshed with the new design
- Have the Wasmer Backend (made in Python, Django, and other cool stuff) runnable on Wasmer Edge (staging)
- Have the Wasmer Frontend (made in JS/TS/Next.js) runnable on Wasmer Edge (staging)
- Get ready for Wasmer Edge to be publicly available
After a very productive week, here's what we have accomplished:
- 🎉 We have successfully run our Django backend on Wasmer and Wasmer Edge with nearly no modifications!
- 🎉 We have successfully run a Winter-CG compatible runtime on Wasmer and Wasmer Edge… that means that our Next.js frontend will be able to run soon there!
- We have moved the OpenGraph image generation for packages to Wasmer Edge
- We have fully updated the Wasmer website with incredibly new designs and a dashboard (changes will be rolled out soon!)
- New Package page
- New User page
- New Namespace pages
- An incredibly-fresh dashboard
- We have improve the resilience of Wasmer significantly
But only some of the plans we had were deep-tech developing...
A people review
Marrakech inhabitants are considered very welcoming and friendly by the Moroccans themselves. We received many expressions of affection and gratitude for visiting Marrakech and maintaining our travel plans after the tremendous earthquakes devastated the region's outskirts.
Among the activities, we visited the old medina (the old city, founded in the 11th Century), had dinner in the Agafay desert, enjoyed an amazing traditional show, and had the most adventurous ride on quads through inhospitable sand extensions, stone, and palm trees. We admired the most beautiful sunrise while flying smoothly in a hot air balloon over a thousand meters high. It is always good to observe the landscape from a perspective from above :).
We spent our stay at the cutest villa with cozy independent rooms, which allowed us to work as a team in the garden and by the pool, enjoying a delightful climate that inspired the team to solve problems and cook new features. Not only ideas, but some wasmates have also surprised us with their exceptional cooking skills. Despite our considerable cultural diversity, we all enjoyed Morrocal outstanding traditional cuisine, tagine after tagine.
We are thrilled about all our progress as a united team this meetup.
In Summary
Can't wait to share in more detail how we achieved each of these remarkable technological feats. Stay tuned for more updates!
